Done With Blogger Too

Posted in General at 3 pm

Well, I’m just about to close down the Smartnetworks site. I have no idea how I’m going to get the content anywhere else. Right now Bad-seed is almost at capacity, and order….com has such horrid access that I can’t get anything working right, plus it’s still not on Apache, with the XSSI extensions that I need. Bah.

Over the past week, I’ve been not having a good life. A flu that started the moment we touched down in Portland after the T-Day trip to Nevada has been grinding on me all week. I’ve been sneezing, aching coughing and my throat is just sitting there taunting me: “So you want to swallow, huh? Well, we’ll see about that!”.And to top it off, On Thursday, Viva and I got in an accident. I wasn’t hurt, and Viva’s damage was comparably minor, but in car with a unibody construction, every damage means more damage than with more cars. So I’m dealing with insurance companies, police, the DMV and holiday shoppers. Add to that my class at PSU and the continuous tale of the cable installation from hell, and it adds up to a pity party for Ross.Oh and sitting in the bath tub today, I heard and watched as drops of water began falling from the vent in the ceiling, directly beneath our upstair’s neighbor’s bathroom. Wonderful. But hey, at least I’ve got my health… wait, scratch that. Now tell me, what the hell am I I going to do with three years of archives of this Journal, now that I’ve switched to blogger? That’ll be a fun trick…

Carson City

Posted in General at 12 pm

Looks like this is the last little bit of tweaking that I’ll need to do. The Blogger button’s there, the spacings a bit less ganglous. I really should finish up with lunch and get back to work. Now I’ve got the final filename set and I can start sending everything over this way. Right? Hey, maybe the listing in the Blogger directory will up my traffic. You never know. Personal stuff: Amy and I got back from Carson City this weekend. We spent the weekend with her family. It’s always more difficult for her than it is for me. I got to spend some time with my new neice and nephew. It was nice, but I’m glad to be back home. So much to do here, it’s not funny. 🙁

The Pain

Now we’ve got the boxes back but the date layout is not customizable to the vertical layout that I had previously. Nor is there any provision for an entry title. 🙁 Ah the pain of giving up a home grown solution.

On The Move

Posted in General at 12 pm

Okay, Dwelling is on the move. Since I’m trying to get off of the server that has most of my personal stuff, and the Perl scripts that were written for Dwelling are so tied to the particular machine, I thought I’d take on Blogger and let it do it’s thing for me. I’ll be missing the rss file functionality that I built, but that may just have to let go in order to have something working. ‘Things must be sacrificed…’ as they say.I’ve got a lot of work to do on the template, but I should be able to resolve that soon enough.

Bird on the Wire

Like a bird on the wire,
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
like a knight from some old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons for thee.
If I, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If I, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you.
Like a baby, stillborn,
like a beast with his horn
I have torn everyone who reached out for me.
But I swear by this song
and by all that I have done wrong
I will make it all up to thee.
I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch,
he said to me, “You must not ask for so much.”
And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door,
she cried to me, “Hey, why not ask for more?”
Oh like a bird on the wire,
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.

Birthday Boy

Sep 17 Sun (10 PM)

Today was my b-day and Amy made it a wonderful one even after all the stuff that’s gone wrong this past week. She gave me a number of very cool presents including a Keyspan Digital Remote(!), a 12″ round tin VW sign, a very cool shirt and more. She always has such great ideas for presents, both big and small. This year I deserved coal but she’s so cool and nice to me.

I also had the pleasure of meeting up with Richard Troy, the founder of the KG Club of North America, today at the Portland Rose Gardens. We had a great time between 11:30 and 1:45pm talking about our cars and looking through an incredible scrap book of photos he had brought. I met his friend Karen and looked at Richard’s ’59 Coupe, including the cool wicker shelf under the front dash, and the dual carb Okrasa fittings.

For someone who should have been the guest, he was a great host, having brought some liquid refreshments, mixed nuts, and even chairs to sit in. 🙂 He patiently gave me a wonderful tour of my own car. (It looks like it was green, then painted yellow and then painted back to green!)

What Shelf?

Sep 17 Sun (07 PM)

In this article at FoxNews, they talk about retrofitting the Hubble telescope to make it 10x as powerful, but the added weight will require an on board engine:

A wafer-shaped module with off-the-shelf commercial ion engines will be attached to the bottom of Hubble.

Will someone please tell me what shop has these ion engines on their shelves? “Yes, I’ll be needing two brake pads, a couple of door handles and an Ion engine please.”
